New £25 million investment will target connections for social housing estates
A new round of funding has been made available to support the installation of fibre broadband infrastructure to social and private housing around London.
Service provider Community Fibre has been awarded £25 million from the National Digital Infrastructure Fund (NDIF) to roll out full fibre connectivity to 100,000 homes on housing estates over the next year.
The new funding doubles the investment in Community Fibre to date. It has a target of connecting 500,000 homes in the capital with full fibre by 2022 and said it will target social housing estates as a priority.
NDIF is a commercial fund set up by Amber Infrastructure Group, and which is supported by investment from the Government’s Digital Infrastructure Investment Fund.
Robert Jenrick, exchequer secretary to the Treasury, said: “We want to see full fibre broadband rolled out across the UK as quickly as possible and to support a competitive private sector in delivering that objectives.
“That’s why we created the Digital Infrastructure Investment Fund, which is boosting the roll out of full fibre to enable people live and work flexibly and productively, without connection failing.”
