Up £1 million to support development of ideas under Digital Health Technology Catalyst

National innovation agency InnovateUK has launched a new competition for financial support in developing digital technologies for healthcare.

It said it is ready to invest up to £8 million through the Digital Health Technology Catalyst, which was set up as part of the Government’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

It has highlighted the potential for a handful of technologies, including: virtual and augmented reality; artificial intelligence and machine learning; the use of sensors, the internet of things and networks; and informatics and data analytics.

Areas in which they could be applied include clinical decision-making, supporting patients with their treatments, and improving disease prevention, treatment and long term care. They should also be aimed at one of a number of priority areas for health services, including cancer diagnosis and treatment, mental health services, diabetes reduction and management of the primary care workload.

The competition is set to run between 15 February and 18 April, with the winning ideas to attract funding of £300,000 up to £1 million in up to 30 months, accounting for up to 70% of project costs. The projects have to be led by SMEs working with at least one partner.
