LSE selects TechnologyOne for financials and accounting

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) has selected TechnologyOne to overhaul its core financial and research accounting business processes. They have signed a five-year deal under which LSE will go live with the company’s financials software-as-a-service solution in August 2019, ready for the new academic year of 2019-20.

Mike Ferguson, finance director at LSE, said: “The financials software will allow us to align key processes under the same system and strengthen our operations. We expect the implementation to have a significant impact on our efficiency and see this as a key strategic investment towards achieving that goal.”

Manchester opens tech incubator

Manchester Science Partnerships (MSP) has launched a £2 million technology incubator that it said will help to create up to 2,000 jobs in data science and technology innovation companies over the next decade. It is located at Manchester Technology Centre, and designed for start-ups in areas such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, cyber security, cloud technologies, the internet of things and digital health.

Mayor Andy Burnham (pictured) said: “I want Manchester to be the UK’s leading tech and digital centre and this new tech incubator takes the city to another level, because if we are going to be a leader in this industry we have to build an ecosystem that supports businesses at every level, from start-up to the biggest players too.”

Public sector workers expect decline

A majority of public servants expect the quality of services to get worse over the next few years, according to a survey of more than 700 carried out by the organisers of the Public Sector Show.

Almost two-thirds (64%) predicted decline against just 17% expecting an overall improvement. They pointed to finance and resources as the biggest challenge (71%), followed by Brexit (59%) and staff shortages (38%).

The show is due to take place at ExCel London 26 June.
