The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust has begun to use the new digital patient record system for Northern Ireland.

Supported by Telefónica Tech, it went live with the encompass system, provided by Epic, earlier this month, following a deployment by the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust in November of last year.

The move marks a milestone in the two-year roll out programme for the patient record around Northern Ireland under a five-year IT managed services contract between Telefónica Tech and Health and Social Care Northern Ireland’s Business Services Organisation.

Telefónica Tech’s role involved building and managing the back end IT infrastructure for the deployment and hosting of the software.

Dr Dermot Hughes, senior responsible owner of the encompass programme, said the company’s team had made a significant contribution to the deployment and grown its Belfast based workforce in support.

Belfast Trust is the largest integrated health and social care trust in the UK, supporting approximately 340,000 citizens and providing regional specialist services to all of Northern Ireland.
