Application programming interfaces (APIs) are now widely seen as key to consistent and secure integration, data sharing, innovation and the redesign of public services; but there is a widespread sense of frustration about the slow progress in making them available.

UKA Live: APIs for the public good on 17th July will discuss the factors that are holding back progress in delivering value from APIs and how to overcome them. It will ask questions such as, how do we agree standards across sectors and encourage legacy suppliers to provide such APIs? Do we need to embed common, open APIs in procurement? What does local government need from the NHS and central government to help it transform both efficiency and citizen services?

This hour long discussion - and your comments / questions and feedback - form part of a wider research project UKAuthority is currently working on in partnership with Cognizant exploring how we can best unlock the full value of APIs for the public good across the health and public sector.

Starting at 11:00am on Wednesday 17th July our expert UKA Live panel will discuss the key issues and explore next steps in driving value - join us live with:

  • Stephen Koch, executive director of platforms for NHS England
  • Chris North, deputy director integration services at DWP Digital
  • Yatin Mahandru, head of health and public sector at Cognizant
  • Helen Olsen Bedford, publisher, UKAuthority
