Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust has installed a new data centre at Dewsbury and District Hospital.

It said the purpose built facility will house around 300 services, support the 24/7 operation of a wide range of digital systems and the trust’s digital transformation.

The new data centre replaces a facility within the Dewsbury hospital that the trust said was no longer fit for purpose, was affected by air conditioning issues and had no room for expansion.

Installation of the new facility involved the use of a 300-tonne care and working with a number of suppliers including Dell, Schneider, Daisy and BCS.

Mid Yorkshire Trust said the increased capacity will support the implementation of new technologies and the further development of existing services, along with reducing unplanned outages and system downtime and strengthening cyber security.

Key focus

Mat Ramskill, head of digital platforms, said: “Digital transformation in healthcare is a key focus for the NHS and for us at Mid Yorkshire. The new digital data centre will support the delivery of this across the trust by enabling us to take full advantage of all appropriate technological opportunities.

“The data centre is essential to ensuring key services and applications are available and efficient 24 hours a day.”

Kat Poole, associate director of infrastructure, digital, added: “It is vital that we meet the challenge of improving patient outcomes and experience through maximising the potential benefits of new technologies. Future proofing our digital infrastructure with leading-edge support will be crucial to achieving this.

“It has been a fantastic team effort with colleagues working tirelessly to create this new state-of-the-art facility that will benefit patients and almost every single colleague across the trust.”
